!PCdisk generates a pseudo-filing system which has one file - this file is
directly mapped onto a SCSI device - ie byte 0 of the file is byte 0
of the device. Only Acorn SCSI_Op compatible scsi drivers are supported
(ie everyone apart from Oak pre v1.30).
The file reports its length as the size of the scsi device (note: removable
media drives must have a cartridge inserted when loading PCdisk).
The file can only be accessed at 512 byte intervals, reading or writing a
multiple of 512 bytes - this is no problem as both the PC emulator and DOSFS
work like this.
The !Run file defines the SCSI ID of the device to be mapped, as PCdisk$SCSIID
- change this as needed.
To assign the hard disk to drive D in the PC emulator, just drag it into the
pathname box after configuring 2 drives.
This has been tested using a Quantum 40Mb SCSI on an A540/Acorn SCSI and a
486DX33/Adaptec 1542B (as ID 1, drive D).
WARNING! Don't use smartdrive or other disk caching programs on the 'shared'
drive, they don't know that the data on the disk will have changed when you
insert a changed cartridge/reattach a modified device and cause real problems.
Remember smartdrive will cache everything unless told explicitly not to.
